FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Every year we receive dozens of questions about the air show, but some of them come up more often than others and should be of interest to anyone planning to attend. Below are some of the more frequently asked questions and their answers, as well as information about what kind of security our guests can expect to see when they visit.
The increased security measures put into place by the Department of Defense, the FAA and law enforcement officials during the past few years are still in effect for all air shows, including the one at Offutt. Please remember, these security requirements are for your safety and are imposed upon all of us equally.
Air Force and local law enforcement officials will be in place at base entrances to enforce these rules. All individuals and vehicles entering the base are subject to search. The rules and their enforcement will not be final until the day of the air show when you actually enter the gates at Offutt AFB and pass through the security checkpoints.
Why aren’t there any times listed with the performances?
One of the things we’ve learned during past air shows is that schedules
are almost impossible to keep. There are hundreds of minor issues that
can arise which have in the past led to delays, schedule swaps, or adjusted
performances.
Additionally, some fly-bys, particularly of military aircraft in high demand
for the Global War on Terrorism, may not be confirmed until the day of
the air show. For this reason we will not be publishing a schedule of events.
Is it safe to come to the air show?
Safety is always a primary concern at air shows. Offutt AFB works very
closely with local and federal authorities to ensure safety. Offutt AFB
follows and enforces all rules and regulations as required. You will notice
extra uniformed security at the air show, both military and civilian.
What are the changes to air show security?
The heightened security instituted during the past few years is still in
effect. All backpacks, coolers and tote bags must be left in your vehicle
and will not be allowed on the airfield. Signs will be posted at the entrances
to the parking and gate areas reminding you of these restrictions. Gate
officials may refuse admittance to persons trying to enter with such items.
Please remember that Offutt AFB is not responsible for items left in vehicles
in the parking areas.
If I cannot bring something into the air show, can I go out to my car during
the show?
Yes. Since this show has no admission fee, you may leave and re-enter as
you desire. Anyone re-entering will have to go through security checkpoints
again.
Can I bring a fanny pack?
Small fanny packs are permitted, subject to approval by gate security personnel
and a hand-search at the gate.
Can I bring a purse?
Small purses are permitted, subject to approval by gate security personnel
and a hand-search at the gate. Large purses (tote bag type) are not permitted.
Can I bring my camera, video camera and cell phone?
Yes. There are no restrictions on electronics. However, large camera bags
are not permitted. Bring only necessary camera equipment, leaving extra
attachments at home. A small fanny pack or camera vest is useful for carrying
extra film and small lenses.
Can I bring water, drinks and food?
Yes. The items must be hand-carried and cannot be in a cooler or carry
bag. All items brought in are subject to approval by gate security personnel
and a hand-search at the gate.
Can I bring a folding chair?
Yes. If your folding chair comes in a carrying case, please have the chair
out of the case as you go through the security check point.
Can parents bring a stroller, diaper bag, change of clothes, etc. for their
children?
Yes. Strollers and wagons will be hand-searched at the gate. Please bring
only necessary items in a small diaper bag, subject to hand-search at the
gate. Large diaper bags may not be permitted. You can return to your vehicle
during the show to get extra clothes, re-stock diaper items, etc.
